“I’m going to make everything around me beautiful—that will be my life.” – Elsie De Wolfe
I have a confession to make. Here goes…
I WORK IN RETAIL AND I LOVE IT.
Crazy, I know because retail jobs are FAR from glamorous. But, lucky for me, I get to be a part of the creative side of the business–which is to inspire customers as they shop. I’ve always been a curator at heart, so being able to put my own twist on merchandise, and create a customized experience for people as they walk through a store, makes me pretty happy. Now, there are those days when I’m hot, sweaty and tired from moving around fixtures and furniture. But, the fact that gathering ideas and inspiration for others is such a huge part of my job, makes my work sort of a dream come true.
More about me:
Since graduating with a Marketing degree in 2006, I’ve always worked in some aspect of marking. Initially, it was creating written marketing concepts for Real Estate development companies Orlando, FL.
After graduating with a Marketing degree in 2006, I started a career creating written marketing concepts for Real Estate Development companies in the Orlando area. Around 2009 (after the housing market crash), most companies scaled their workforce to the bare minimum, and my services were no longer requested–anywhere. So, I started a freelance writing career, working for various print and digital magazines.
I never thought I’d end up working in retail. But, in 2011 I was looking to make some extra holiday cash, and took a part time job working for Williams Sonoma. My hubby suggested I do it, since we shopped there anyway, and having a discount couldn’t hurt. Shortly after starting, I was asked to work in merchandising, and I’ve been hooked ever since. I’m currently the Merchandising Manager for the #2 store in the country–a 10,000 sq ft space that houses a huge assortment of luxury kitchen and home products and furniture.
